“The Criminals at Calvary: Fair or Unfair?” March 24, 2019 Rev. Dr. Jeffrey W. Tilden Surrender Luke Sunday, March 24, 2019 Topic: Surrender Scripture: Luke 23:35-43 As we approach the third Sunday of the Lenten season, perhaps you noticed that my messages have focused on specific people who were at or near Calvary when Jesus was condemned to the cross. The gospel of Luke tells us that two criminals were executed at the same time as was Jesus—one on either side. In Sunday’s message I will look more closely at who these men were and why were they being punished. I will also pose an important question that many have asked: Is it fair that Jesus forgave one of the criminals who had caused great injury, harm and suffering to many individuals, the families of victims and business owners? Join with me on Sunday as we explore God’s Word, mine the riches of as intended by the original authors and seek to apply it to our daily lives.
