Operation Christmas Child:

As part of a united effort to expand the Aura Ministry and in partnership with several other local churches, members and friends filled about 20 shoeboxes with special Christmas gifts and a personal letter.  Boxes were sent to regional distribution sites and ultimately shipped overseas to children in third world countries affected by war, poverty, natural disaster, famine and disease.  Dr. Tilden offered thanks over the shoe box gifts and prayed that each child who received a box would powerfully experience the love of Jesus and invite Him to be their Savior and Lord.  Operation Christmas Child is part of the Christian outreach of Samaritan’s Purse, a global ministry spearheaded by the Rev. Franklin Graham.

“Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this:

To look after orphans and widows in their distress

And to keep oneself polluted by the world.”

(James 1:27)

Clothing Distributed

A special word of thanks goes to those who recently donated clothing.  The Aura Church was able to quickly turn those items back into the community to meet local needs.

“If you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain,

‘Move from here to there’ and it will move.

Nothing will be impossible for you.”

(Matthew 17:20-21)

Community Partnership:

A special word of thanks to those who generously donated to our Thanksgiving Non-perishable Food Collection.  The Aura Church partnered with the First National Bank of Elmer and the Aura School in a successful effort to supply to local families in need.  Jesus said,

“Whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of mine, you did for me.”

(Matthew 15:40)

Thanking Our Veterans

Veteran’s Day, November 11, is a day that we thank God for those who sacrificially served our nation in order to protect our freedom of religious expression and other freedoms that we cherish.  Take the time to thank a veteran that you know and to reach out to those who are currently serving our country.  We are thankful that we live in a country that was founded on Christian values and that enables us to freely worship our amazing and sovereign God.  With thanksgiving, let’s place our hand over our hearts, stand for our national anthem and pray for our nation as we rededicate ourselves to sharing the hope of Jesus within our communities.

Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power.

Put on the full armor of God,  so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes.

For our struggle is not against flesh and blood,  but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world

and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.

(Ephesians 6:10-12)

Giving Thanks

Thanksgiving, November 22, is one of the most widely celebrated traditions in American culture and it is an important celebration in the Christian Church.  We not only remember that settlers and native Americans joined in a common meal to give thanks, but that their thanks were directed toward the one true and sovereign God.  As Christians today, we continually thank God for his wonderful provision of life and harvest, family, friends and our church family, and especially for the amazing gift of forgiveness that Jesus freely gave with his life on the cross. Let us give thanks, not only on Thanksgiving Day, but by the way we live on a daily basis as we strive to model Jesus and to obey His commands.

“Praise the Lord. Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good; his love endures forever.” (Psalm 106:1)

Advent Begins

The Christian Calendar recalls and celebrates the life and ministry of Jesus and the birth of the early church.  The first season is Advent, which always begins on the fourth Sunday before Christmas Day, December 2 in 2018.

The word advent means “coming” or “arrival.”  Appropriately the season celebrates the birth of Jesus, His first advent, and anticipates His return at the end of the age, the second advent.  Advent emphasizes God’s plan of salvation—all of creation may be reconciled to God through Jesus Christ—a process in which we now participate, the consummation of which we still anticipate.

With its dual focus on past and future, Advent also symbolizes our spiritual journey, as individuals and as a congregation, as we affirm that Christ has come, He is present in the world today, and He will come again in power and glory.  Such a profession of faith serves as the foundation for our biblical worldview—our desire to love God, to love our neighbor, and to be ambassadors of God’s love and truth as we find ourselves living between the past and future coming of Jesus.  Advent is marked by a spirit of preparation, anticipation, and hope in the reign of Jesus, the long-awaited Messiah who will bring righteousness and peace to the world.

Traditionally, the primary color for the communion tablecloth, pulpit scarf, and other vestments is purple. Purple represents the spirit of penitence and fasting and is the color of royalty appropriate for welcoming Christ our King.

As we prepare for the birth of Jesus, may God powerfully use his church and each one of us to extend the warmth of His grace and truth to neighbors and friends at home and in the world.

“The people walking in darkness have seen a great light; On those living in the land of the shadow of death a light has dawned.”

(Isaiah 9:2)

Christmas Eve Candlelight Service

Monday December 24 7:00 pm

The Christmas Eve Service at the Aura Church is an intergenerational and interactive traditional candlelight service that is perfect for members and friends of all ages. The early hour offers an excellent opportunity for individuals and families to enjoy an inspirational celebration of Jesus’ birth and for parents to return home early with their children. The service will include a special Kid’s Time, a brief meditation from a biblical worldview, a special ornament for each child present, and the traditional lighting of candles.  We are pleased to offer this meaningful time of worship for our members, new friends and the greater community.  Be sure to invite a friend, neighbor or relative to share in our joy as we celebrate our Savior’s birth.

“For unto us a child is born”

(Isaiah 9:6)
