Topic: Doubt

Scripture Reading: John 20:24-31 (Pew Bible Page 799)

Message Summary:

Doubt is often viewed as negative, yet it can play a positive role in the life of believers. Thomas doubted because he was earnestly seeking the truth.  Once confronted with the truth, he responded with a faith and loyalty that empowered his witness and carried him to victory even in his death as a martyr for Jesus Christ.  Jesus’ encounter with Thomas is not just about Thomas or his doubts.  Thomas’ encounter with the Lord and the resolution of his doubt reminds us that the resurrection was not a fable or a later rewriting of historical facts.  The deeper message of John’s gospel is that Jesus is the Messiah.  Those who believe in Him inherit eternal life.  Join with me on Sunday as we look at the difference between healthy doubt as a response that leads to good questions and unhealthy doubt as a lifestyle of rebellion and unbelief.
