Topic: Christian Life

Scripture: I Peter 1:13 – 17, 2:11-12 (Pew Bible page 895)

Message Summary

Times are changing and we must be proactive, not reactive, as we live in the present and look to the future.  This week we will meet with our District Superintendent, Rev. Glenn Conaway to discuss the next steps for ministry here in the Aura Community.  This is an important time to reflect on what God wants us to do as a purposeful, thriving, and obedient church in the world.  We, as individual Christians, will also be called to grow in our understanding of who God wants us to be as followers of Christ in a world that needs the gospel message.  In our reading for today, Peter describes the goal of Christian living, especially in contrast to the more common way of life seen in the secular world of the first century.  By extension, the apostle  challenges us to live as “strangers” in secular world who are morally self-controlled, have an eternal perspective, and allow Jesus to drive our hopes and dreams.  Peter’s prayer points to the quest of every true disciple of Jesus Christ—that, as Christians living in a world that has lost its moral anchor, our hope and joy will become a more familiar sight and a powerful witness to those who are lost.
