Topic: Lent

Scripture: Luke 23:32-34 (Pew Bible page 776)

Message Summary

Wednesday marked the beginning of a new season in the Christian calendar.  Lent includes the 40-week days leading up to Easter, beginning on Ash Wednesday (February 26).  Lent is a season of introspection and reflection anticipating the cross and Jesus’ great sacrifice.  The word “LENT” comes from the Old English word, “Lengthen,” meaning lengthen (referring to lengthening days) or spring, the season in which Lent is celebrated.  The final of six Sundays during Lent is Palm Sunday, the day of Jesus’ triumphal entry into Jerusalem.  Traditionally, Lent is a special time of personal renewal and spiritual growth.  As we grow closer to the Lord, I hope our passion to reach friends and relatives will also grow.  In today’s message we will hear a personal testimony about how a simple fund-raising breakfast can be transformed into a powerful opportunity to share the love of Christ with friends and neighbors.  Join with me today as we remember Jesus’ sacrifice and we explore new ways to pass forward his love.
