Message Summary
Aura may be “The Home Church You Have Been Looking For!” Hello, I am Dr. J and I want to invite you join us as we explore the powerful truths of the Bible and apply them to our lives. Do you remember your great grandfather’s name? When is the last you thought about someone who had a tremendously positive influence on your life? These questions bring me to the subject of Halloween. The original Halloween was known as “All Hallow’s Eve,” the evening before a special day that Christians celebrated—All Saints Day. All Saints Day was a time of giving thanks for our dear departed brothers and sisters in Christ. To help us to celebrate the faith of those who have gone before us, I will turn to the portion of Genesis that recounts the life of the faithful Enoch. Verses 21-25 comes from a wider genealogy that reminds us about our identity as the chosen people of God. While it is fun to dress up in costumes that reflect harvest themes and Bible characters, much of our culture’s practice of Halloween involves a frightening focus on death, demons and the occult. In contrast, the story of Enoch is a powerful reminder of God’s victory over death and the glorious hope that we share with our departed brothers and sisters in Christ. Join us Sunday as we remember the saints and celebrate our future joy of eternal life in Christ.
